The mission of the Salinas Union High School District Transportation Department is to provide safe and reliable professional transportation services for our students according to the parameters set forth by the District's policies and all applicable State and Federal Laws. 
 
Our mission with our Special Needs Transportation is to ensure your child arrives at school and returns home safely with care and thought given to his/her individual needs. To accomplish our mission, the Salinas Union High School District Transportation Department will be an "Integral part of learning" by maintaining a professional, caring, and positive environment for our students.

Volunteer Driver Authorization Process
 
The District requires pre-approval of drivers who operate district vehicles and transport students in private or District vehicles within the scope of assigned duties.  Pre-qualification of drivers will fulfill the District’s goal of obtaining a higher standard of safety in the transportation of students and staff and controlling liability.
 
To expedite driver authorization, complete the following:
 
ALL EMPLOYEES OR VOLUNTEERS DRIVING DISTRICT VEHICLES AND TRANSPORTING STUDENTS: 
 
Complete and submit the Volunteer Driver Acknowledgement and Approval Form (HSD 259) to the site Administrator.  Please include and attach the following; 
  • Copy of Driver’s license
  • Copy of Driver’s Record (DMV online)
  • Copy of proof of insurance.
 
The site Administrator may approve or deny after reviewing the Volunteer Driver Acknowledgement and Approval Form (HSD 259).
 
The site Administrator retains a copy of the Volunteer Driver Acknowledgement and Approval Form and sends a copy to the Transportation Safety Coordinator for final approval.
 
The Transportation Safety Coordinator will process the request and review all documents and DMV History records.
 
Makes recommendations based on the following criteria:
 
  • Been convicted of any violation of Vehicle Sections 20001 (leaving the scene of an accident), 23101 through 23106 (reckless driving), or 23152, 23153 (alcohol and drugs).
  • Had his/her driving privileges suspended, revoked, or placed on probation by DMV for a cause involving the safe operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Has been involved as a driver in any accident resulting in death, serious injury, or severe property damage within the two years preceding the application date, and the applicant contributed to the cause of the said accident(s) per DMV record.
  • Has been involved as a driver in three or more violations or accidents within the twelve months preceding the application date and contributed to the cause of the said accident(s) as indicated by the DMV record.
