ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENT TO FILL BOARD VACANCY AND APPLICATION INFORMATION 

 Applications are requested from community members to fill the Board seat vacated by the resignation of Mrs. Patty Padilla-Salsberg, Trustee Area #2.  Trustee Area #2 serves parts of Washington Middle School and Salinas High School attendance areas.    
 
The person appointed shall hold office until the next regularly scheduled election for District Board members and shall be afforded all the powers and duties of a Board member upon appointment. (Board Bylaw #9223)  (Education Code 5091)
 
 Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, and reside within the Salinas Union High School District Trustee Area #2 and be a registered voter. Interested persons are invited to submit an application addressed to Mr. Dan Burms, Superintendent, Salinas Union High School District, 431 West Alisal Street, Salinas California, 93901. The application process includes 1) a letter of interest explaining why the applicant is interested in becoming a member of the Salinas Union High School District Board of Trustees, 2) an application for appointment, and 3) a brief résumé of the applicant’s background. Applications can be obtained on the District Website or at the District Office located at 431 West Alisal Street, between the hours of 8:005:00 p.m., the district’s website http://www.salinasuhsd.org or by calling 7967012.  If you are unsure if you live within the boundaries of Trustee Area #2, please call Registrar of Voters, at 796-1499.  
 
All the applications must be received in the Salinas Union High School District no later than Friday, March 22 at 5:00 p.m. Applicants will be interviewed publicly at the regularly scheduled Board Meeting of April 9, 2024. Applicants are discouraged from attempting to call Board members for the purpose of soliciting support.  
 
THE BOARD IS INTERESTED IN CANDIDATES WHO:  
1. Are supportive of the District’s mission and goals;
2. Are committed to excellence in providing educational opportunities for students;
3. Will make decisions based upon careful analysis of all data without regard to influence by special interest groups;
4. Will work in a mutually supportive way with other Board members, the Superintendent and staff;
5. Are willing to commit adequate time to Board meetings, Board development opportunities, and related activities;
6. Have a commitment to the school community as well as the general community, representing all constituents of the District;
7. Have demonstrated an interest in support for public education;
8. Demonstrate a background reflecting personal and professional integrity; and  
9. Are committed and endorse the primary responsibility of a trustee in regards to policymaking.  

In arriving at a decision, the Board will consider the candidate’s length of residence in the community, special areas of expertise and other factors, including but not limited to her/his relationship to:  
1. The Business and Professional Community
2. Public Agencies
3. Community Groups
