Student Engagement: Inclusion and Equity

Student Engagement: Inclusion and Equity

A just, equitable, and inclusive learning environment will be established by supporting the implementation of district-wide actions focused on increasing student engagement and student voice in classrooms and on campus.  By focusing on identifying and increasing student engagement for each student through an inclusion and equity lens, we will build coherence in our collaborative work towards justice, equity, and inclusion for our diverse students and staff.

Gathering and evaluating disproportionate student outcomes and related access to opportunities is essential to identify root causes, define the educational inequities, and create shared understanding and common language regarding equity, inclusion, bias, and racism within our schools and our surrounding communities. This requires analyzing current policies, practices, structures, and beliefs that contribute to inequity and the continuation of opportunity gaps.

Schools will provide continuous and interactive professional learning opportunities for teachers, staff, and parents/families with a focus on relationship building, providing opportunities for meaningful engagement and student voice, developing self-awareness, recognizing implicit bias, and implementing transformational change together.

In addition to education, awareness, and analysis, the district will work with community partners, families, staff members, and students closest to the issues to plan and implement action steps for long-term, transformative change with the goal of increasing student engagement resulting in college and/or career readiness that include lifelong learning and related opportunities.
