Board Highlights are summaries of the Board of Trustees (the Board) meetings published by the communications staff and are not intended as documentation. Public Comment

• Members of our community addressed the Board regarding the safety of African-American students in the district. Representatives of the African-American community requested a meeting with the Superintendent and Board members to collaboratively address concerns.

• The Board recognized the 2022-2023 Winter Season League Champions: 

  • Rancho San Juan Girls’ Basketball - Pacific Coast Athletic League Santa Lucia Division Champions

  • Rancho San Juan Girls’ Soccer - Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division Champions 

District Communications

• Board President Carlos Rubio recognized and commended the SUHSD Job Fair, organized and hosted by the SUHSD Human Resources Division. 

  • Superintendent Dan Burns shared that 148 individuals attended the Job Fair, 80 interviews were conducted, and 43 job offers were made. 

Action Items

• SUHSD Manager of Business Ana Aguillon presented the Second Interim Report. The district has received a positive certification of financial condition, meaning based upon current projections, the district will meet its financial obligations for the current fiscal year and subsequent two fiscal years.

Consent Items 

• The Board of Education approved a districtwide minimum day on March 21, 2023 to conduct mandated bias and implicit bias training. All schools will have an adjusted bell schedule with a late start for students.  The adjusted schedule will provide time for all staff to participate in training during the workday.

Next Board Meeting 

• The next board meeting will take place on March 28, 2023 at 6:30 PM in the Board Room at Salinas Union High School District Office, 403 W. Alisal Street.
