Black History Maker: Michael Ndubisi
At SUHSD, we’re celebrating Black History Month by paying tribute to Black History Makers from our very own district community!
Meet Michael Ndubisi! He is a 2021 North Salinas High School graduate who has been honored with the Good Citizen Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution, the President’s Volunteer Service Award from the Points of Light Foundation, and was named Salinas’ Vice Poet Laureate in 2021.
Michael started to attend Yale after graduating from North Salinas High School, choosing the Ivy League University because of its exceptional commitment to service and leadership. Michael believes that his purpose in life is to serve others, and as an aspiring lawyer, he felt attending the highest-ranking law school in the country would be the most beneficial to follow his life’s purpose.
Not only is Michael an aspiring lawyer, but he is also a community organizer and writer. He shares that each of his career choices are rooted in a deep understanding of issues facing our society and communities, and he feels a strong desire to improve lives and leave the world a better place.
Michael contributes a great deal of his success to his background. Coming from a black, immigrant family has given him the drive to succeed in order to serve his community and improve the lives of other immigrant families and families of color.
“Regardless of who you are, where you come from, what you look like, or what you believe, you can make it in this world if you put your mind to it,” shares Michael. “Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. When you do find success, don’t forget to give back and look for ways to help others succeed too!”
The Salinas Union High School District is proud of all Michael has done to inspire and uplift his community and we are excited to see how he continues to use his success for the benefit of others. We are excited to celebrate his history this Black History Month.
