Board Highlights are summaries of the Board of Trustees (the Board) meetings published by the communications staff and are not intended as documentation. Presentations

  • Student Board Representatives from Washington Middle School and Rancho San Juan High School presented to the Board, discussing the special events and student achievement in their respective schools during the Fall 2022 semester. 

  • Kimberly McCullick, SUHSD Director of Educational Services, and Robin Mendenhall, SUHSD Science Curriculum Specialist, presented updates to the Board regarding Next Generation Science (NGS) Updates.

  • Linda Yang, Senior Associate at Eide Bailly, presented the audited financial statements of SUHSD for the year ending in June 2022. No findings were reported. 

District Communications 

  • Superintendent Dan Burns provided insight into the current status of employee housing. The district should be able to make housing available starting late February at the earliest. 

Consent Items

  • The Board approved the 2022-2023 Salary Schedules for Certificated, Classified, Confidential, Supervisor, Certificate Management, Classified Management, and Executive Management Employees. The salary schedules include the 11% pay increase that was Board approved on December 13, 2022. 

Action Item

  • After the interviewing of two candidates, Monica Lujan was elected to fill the board vacancy for Trustee Area #6. This comes after the board members were stuck at a standstill after voting 3-3 for Monica Lujan and the second candidate, Monica Anzo. At that time, Monica Anzo announced she was withdrawing from the race, giving her full support to Monica Lujan and the Board. 

Next Board Meeting 

  • The next board meeting will take place on February 14, 2023 at 6:30 PM in the Board Room at Salinas Union High School District Office, 403 W. Alisal Street.
