Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day

November 15, 2022

Today was Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day, honoring Ruby, the first Black student to integrate into the public school system in New Orleans, Louisiana.

To honor the special date, students at Salinas High School walked a quarter mile around the softball field, the same distance Ruby walked as she was escorted by U.S. Federal Marshals into William Frantz Elementary School.

Many thanks to Salinas HS Intervention Specialist Beth Oneto for helping organize today's efforts, including putting together a slide show for teachers to share in class, as well as handing out commemorative stickers and pencils.
