SUHSD 2019 Teacher of the Year
Maggie Power, an English teacher at Salinas High School, is the 2019 SUHSD Teacher of the year.
“She treats students with tremendous respect and she has tremendous passion for what she does,” said Art Hunsdorfer, a Salinas High counselor who nominated Power.
Power is known for helping students secure scholarships, as well as, opening her classroom before and after school and at lunch, to offer assistance.

An AVID teacher & coach at El Sausal MS, he has led the program for three years and “is a leader among both students and teachers” according to his peers.
Amber is an ace English teacher and a shining star as Alisal’s “Tech” Instructional Coach. “She brings laughter, sparkle, compassion and even treats to all of her trainings.”
Mission Trails’ Dental Careers Instructor said “I come to work each day with a smile on my face, ready to make a difference in the lives of my students.”
Carol teaches online learning at Mount Toro HS. “Her expansive knowledge and dedication to student success makes her a model teacher.”
Alvarez’s French teacher, Madame Hoefling saved the program “through kindness, patience, professional acumen and uncanny perseverence.”
A math and AVID teacher at North Salinas, Jemmalyn strives to share the realities of global citizenship with her students.
Washington’s Lan Clayton goes above and beyond as a SPED teacher. She knows her students well, supports new teachers and is an utmost professional when dealing with difficult students.
Since the inception of the PLC, Mrs. Garcia has been an outstanding collaborator at Harden, where she teaches social science. “She stands as an exemplar of her profession.”
La Paz’s Valerie Osuna teaches ELD and ALD. She always engages support from families. She supports parents by involving them in school activities, as well as, academics.
