May 19, 2026

SALINAS, Calif. — Salinas Union High School District celebrated the grand opening of a new academic building at Salinas High School, marking a significant investment in modern learning spaces designed to support students for generations to come.

The new 33,600-square-foot facility includes 22 classrooms, including six science labs, along with a new student plaza, entry archway, and updated student and staff restroom facilities. The building was designed to create collaborative and engaging learning environments that support student achievement and opportunity.

The project represents a $40.8 million investment made possible through a combination of local bond measures and state matching funds, including Measure B, Measure W, and Proposition 51 funding.

District leaders, students, staff, families, board members, and community partners gathered during the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the project and the continued transformation of the Salinas High School campus.

“This is more than a new building — it’s an investment in the future of our students and the opportunities they deserve,” said Zandra Jo Galván, Superintendent of Salinas Union High School District.

As one of the district’s historic campuses, Salinas High School continues to evolve to meet the needs of current and future generations of students while honoring its longstanding role within the Salinas community.
