Program Overview

  • The Salinas Valley Teacher Residency is an innovative, year-long teacher preparation program combining intensive academic coursework with the guidance of an expert master teacher.  Student teachers will use classroom theory and the latest best practices in a classroom setting using a gradual release of responsibility model. Throughout their training, they will receive  consistent and ongoing feedback from university clinical coaches, their master teacher and school site administrators.

The program was created by the Salinas Union High School District in partnership with the California State University, Monterey Bay to help recruit, train, support and place beginning teachers in the high needs content areas of special education, mathematics and science.
