WMS Promotion Information

  • Board Policy requires that midde school students meet the District's promotion criteria to be promoted to high school.  Students who do not meet the promotion requirement may be retained in the eighth grade for an entire school year.

    Students must complete all required courses to participate in the middle school promotion ceremony at the conclusion of eighth grade.

    Student who are at-risk of being retained will be identified early in the school year and provided with Extended Learning Opportunities.  Each school will contact parents and explain the required support program.  Extended Learning Opportunities may be before/after school, on Saturdays, and/or during summer school.  Please contact the school for more information on the Extended Learning Opportunities available.

     

    8TH GRADE PROMOTION DATES

    Popcorn Fundraiser for Promotion: March 23rd - April 13th - Due to the end of the year expenses and activities, we want to give everyone the opportunity to fundraise for the events. 

    Panoramic Group Picture: Monday, April 9th - It is not a free dress day. You must bring your money and order form that day, cash or checks (made to Lifetouch).

    Promotion Pictures in Gowns: Wednesday, April 18th - The pictures are taken through PE classes. You do not need to pay upfront, and can decide when you see the pictures.

    8th Grade Awards Night: Wednesday, May 16th @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm in the WMS Auditorium - By invitation only and semiformal

    Clearance and Purchase End of the Year Items: Wednesday-Friday, May 16th-18th - After clearing, students can purchase tickets for promotion events.

    8th Grade Toro Park Picnic: Tuesday, May 22nd @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm at Toro Park - Tickets on sale 5/16-5/18 for $10. Students meet at school. 

    8th Grade PROMOTION CEREMONY: Wednesday, May 23rd @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm in the Salinas High School Stadium - 

    All are welcome, no balloons or noise makers permitted. Students must meet on the SHS track at 3:30 pm in gowns. For more information, see link for "8th Grade Activities Dates." Minimum day - School ends at 1:30 pm.

    8th Grade Dinner Dance Promotion Party: Wednesday, May 23rd @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm in the WMS Gym - Tickets on sale 5/16-5/18 for $20.

    Last Day of School: Thursday, May 24th - Promotion Certificates awarded in English class. Minimum day - School ends at 1:30 pm.

    The above items and events are optional with the exception of the Promotion Gown. The students have all been measured and gowns have been ordered. Payment will be expected upon delivery. The Promotion Office will be open beginning Wednesday, 5/16 through Monday, 5/21. ELIGIBLE students will visit the Promotion Office through their Social Studies class to purchase the gown, the picnic ticket, and the promotion party ticket on Wednesday, 5/16 - Friday, 5/18. The total cost of the gown, picnic, and party is $55.
