HMS Library

  • The L. M. LeKander Library at Harden Middle School is located by the Student Store, contains approximately 10,000 books, periodicals, reference books, a new student lounge.
     
    Our collection strengths include biographies, high-interest AR fiction books, and personalized assistance.

    Q: Where can students get a library card?
    A: Students were issued an ID card during registration. ID cards are also library cards.

    Q: How do students get a library card if they have not gone to registration or I am a new student?
    A: Go to the Student Store to get an ID card. The first one is free.

    Q: How much does a library card cost?
    A: The first ID card is free. 

    Q: I lost my library card. How much does a replacement cost?
    A: A replacement ID card is $5.00. Replacement cards can be purchased in the Student Store.

    Q: What can I do with my library card?
    A:
    • Borrow items
    • Use computers
    • Check out textbooks for library use
    • Check out materials during homework center hours
    • Check out hotspots with parental permission

    Q: How many PHYSICAL items can I check out at a time?
    A: A total of 2 books at a time

    Q: How long can I keep library items?
    A: Loan period for all items is 2 weeks.

    Q: Can I renew items?
    A: Yes, items can be renewed up to 3 times if there are no pending requests. Renewals can be done in person only with book in hand.

    Q: Can I put an item on hold?
    A: Yes, a total of 2 items can be put on hold per library card. Items can only be held for 3 days and an AR test on their previous needs to be completed.

    Q: How do I return library items?
    A: Return items to the librarian and they will check them in on the spot.

    Q: How will I receive overdue book notifications?
    A: Notices will be sent to student email accounts and a hard copy will be sent to students in their class.

    Q: What are the fines for a damaged item?
    A: Minimum is 5.00 up to the replacement cost of the book ( depending on damage).

    Q: I lost a library book. What are the fines?
    A: The replacement cost of any lost item.
