Grad Ready

  •

Grad Ready is North Salinas High School's intervention system for students struggling academically. It is composed of four different tiers, each designed to give students the individualied support they need. Students are automatically enrolled into Tier II based on progress report grades and counselors will refer students into Tier III and IV based on students' individual progress toward graduation. All students have access to Tier I support.

    Tier I

Tier 1 is designed for students who are failing one course. These students get help from their teachers during the designated academics support part of the school day, which occurs from 1:40 PM to 2:59 PM on each school day except Wednesday. Information about each teacher's intervention hours can be found in the Google Classroom for that particular class and by reaching out to the teacher directly.

    Tier II

Tier II of Grad Ready is designed for students who are fialing two or three classes and need focused study help. From 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Monday through Thursday, students attend a "9th period" class via video session with an NSHS teacher. In these courses students will get focused help to help make up assignments and prepare for upcoming assignments. Attendance is taken and parents are notified when students don't attend this course. Students exit Tier II if they are able to raise their grades to a 75% or better in all courses.

    Tier III

Tier III is for students who need to recover credits and can do so in a self-paced online class. Students are enrolled in either one of two schedule options where they will take these online classes: 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday or 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturdays. These online classes are all "individual studies" in that there is no live instruction - all coursework is computer based. Students work at their own pace and upon completion of a course they receive credit toward graduation. Students can recover mutliple credits via Tier III.

    Tier IV

Tier IV is for students who need to recover credits but need additional support with content mastery. Students will receive direct instruction from teachers via live video classes held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM accross eight Saturdays. In addition, they will be assigned approximately three hours of independent work each week that they complete during Saturday afternoons (12:00 PM to 3:00 PM) or throughout the week according to their own schedule. Students who sucessfully pass the Tier IV class will receive high school credit. Students generally only take one course per eight-week period however in some cases they may take two 4-week courses to make up for classes where only a semester was failed.
