The Teacher Support program is here to answer questions, provide resources, and help acclimate new teachers and certificated staff to our district.
We also provide induction support for certificated staff to help clear credentials. Please see the information below for specific resources regarding programs, credentialing, and steps to becoming an educator in the Salinas Union High School District. We have multiple ways to support teachers, whether you are a veteran teacher or just beginning your career.

Teacher Residency Programs
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Salinas Valley Teacher Residency (SVTR) is an innovative, year-long teacher preparation program in partnership with California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) combining intensive academic coursework with the guidance of an expert master teacher. Student teachers will use classroom theory and the latest best practices in a classroom setting using a gradual release of responsibility model. Throughout their training, they will receive consistent and ongoing feedback from university clinical coaches, their master teacher, and school site administrators. A new teacher support specialist will act as a laison for the program, district and school site as an extra layer of support for the resident teacher. A significant stipend will be awarded while a 4-year teaching commitment to the Salinas Union High School District (SUHSD) after program completion will be required if a teaching position in the credentialed area is available.
The SUHSD has two more residency partnerships and now includes the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) and the Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE)/Alder Graduate School of Education (AGSE) consortium. Scroll to the right to see the three residency tabs.
