Nathalia Carrillo was elected to the Salinas Union High School District Board of Trustees in November 2021 and currently serves as Board President, representing Trustee Area Three. A proud product of the district, she graduated from Alisal High School in 1988 and is honored to serve the community that helped shape her educational journey.
President Carrillo sought a seat on the Board with the belief that district decisions should reflect the voices of students, families, and staff. She is known for her open-door approach to leadership and her commitment to engaging directly with school communities to better understand their successes, challenges, and priorities. She values thoughtful, data-informed decision-making while keeping student success at the center of the Board's work.
She brings extensive public service and community leadership experience to the Board, having served on the Monterey County Planning Commission, Monterey County Redistricting Commission, Monterey County Commission on the Status of Women, City of Salinas Planning Commission, and City of Salinas Traffic Commission. President Carrillo is also a former President of Latina Leaders of Kern County and a graduate of the Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE) Leadership Institute, where she strengthened her commitment to civic leadership and community engagement.
As both a parent and grandparent of Salinas Union High School District students, President Carrillo understands firsthand the hopes families have for their children's education. She remains dedicated to fostering strong partnerships between schools, families, and the community while supporting opportunities that empower every student to learn, grow, and succeed.
