Migrant Education Program Overview

The Purpose of the Migrant Program:
Ensure that migrant students have the opportunity to meet the same challenging state content and perform standards that all students are expected to meet. Support High-quality and comprehensive educational programs for migratory students to help reduce the educational disruptions and other problems that result from repeated moves. Ensure that migrant students are provided with appropriate educational services (including supportive services) that address their special needs in a coordinated and efficient manner. Design programs to help migrant students overcome educational disruption, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, various health related problems, and other factors that inhibit the ability of children to do well in school. The program should help prepare students to make a successful transition to post-secondary education or employment.
Eligability and Requirements:
- Eligibility is established through an interview process conducted by a certified Migrant Education recruiter (District Migrant Community Liaison or Regional recruiter).
- Migrant students must be between age 3 to 21
- Family must have moved to seek employment in agriculture, floristry, commercial fishing within the last three years.
- A young adult can qualify on his or her own if he or she works and moves due to seeking agricultural, floristry or fishing employment.
- Type of work must be seasonal or temporary.
